The Centre for Food Allergy Research (CFAR) is offering three Postgraduate Scholarships to begin in semester 1 2025.

Our highly successful Postgraduate Research Program has supported 19 PhD Scholars since 2013. Now, thanks to our third consecutive round of National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) funding, we are thrilled to offer five more Scholarships – two announced in 2023 (round 1) and three in 2024 (round 2).

Leading researchers in the field – CFAR Chief and Associate Investigators – will supervise each Scholar, while our national network of food allergy experts will provide invaluable mentorship and training opportunities.

Eligibility

  • Honours degree graduates or students – or equivalent – in the fields of molecular, biological and medical sciences, population health and statistics, data linkage, health economics and health care policy
  • Healthcare professionals, including – but not limited to – allergy/immunology or respiratory trainees/fellows, general paediatricians, dietitians and nurses
  • Enrolment in a PhD or MPhil course at a recognised Australian institution
  • At least one member of supervisory panel must be a CFAR3 Chief or Associate Investigator
  • Driven to be part of Australia’s next generation of food allergy researchers

Information for your supervisors

  • The two main supervisors must complete this short Supervisor Report.
  • Applicants to complete the top of the Report and send it to the supervisors along with your research proposal.
  • The supervisor must forward their report directly to the CFAR Program Manager: cre.cfar@mcri.edu.au

Information for our referees

  • The two nominated referees must complete this short Referee Report.
  • Applicants to complete the top of the Report and send it to the referees along with your research proposal.
  • The referee must forward their report directly to the CFAR Project Manager: cre.cfar@mcri.edu.au

Successful scholar expectations

  • Work on your postgraduate project 38 hours a week if full-time, or 19 hours a week if part-time
  • Attend in person and present an annual progress report at the CFAR-NACE Retreat held in Melbourne each May (scholars located outside of Melbourne will be financially supported to attend)
  • Submit any publications arising from candidature for presentation at the annual ASCIA Conference CFAR Hot Publications session
  • Acknowledge CFAR in all publications, technical papers and media activity.
  • Become a member of the NACE Food Allergy Stream (membership is free, join here)
  • Work towards applying for future independent postdoctoral and/or project funding*

*If you receive external scholarship funding, the CFAR Postgraduate Research Scholarship will be converted to a CFAR Postgraduate Top-up Scholarship of $10,000 per annum (FTE) for the remaining duration of the award.
