NACE Food Allergy Stream
In collaboration with the Australasian Society of Clinical Immunology and Allergy (ASCIA), Allergy & Anaphylaxis Australia (A&AA) and the National Allergy Strategy (NAS), CFAR lobbied for a national body to accelerate not only food allergy research, but also drug, insect and respiratory allergy research across Australia. The National Allergy Centre of Excellence (NACE) launched in August 2022.
The NACE has established a world-first model for a national allergy research body bringing together Australia’s leading drug, food, insect and respiratory allergy experts. It’s membership of 300+ researchers and clinicians are united to help address the allergy epidemic that impacts five million Australians. It has launched a national plan of action, underpinned by four pillars, to develop the tools and resources needed to accelerate allergy research and inform the work of the National Allergy Council.
CFAR investigators and members also help make up the NACE Food Allergy Stream to advance food allergy research, identify important questions for new studies, and ensure the latest findings are translated into effective public health policies. This work leads to the best care for children and adults living with food allergies.
NACE Food Allergy PhD Scholars
To remain at the forefront of global allergy research, the NACE awarded nine Postgraduate Scholarships in 2023 to address the gaps in our knowledge across drug, food, insect and respiratory allergic disease. Senior NACE allergy researchers supervise the competitive PhD and Master's candidates to help continue the momentum of addressing the allergy epidemic in Australia. CFAR Chief Investigator Professor Dianne Campbell is also the NACE Training and Innovation Pillar Lead and oversees this program.
Audrey Walsh

Allergy Studies Directory
Under CFAR2, a food allergy studies directory was created to improve access to studies recruiting across Australia. The NACE has expanded this resource to also include recruiting and active drug, insect and respiratory allergy studies. Individuals and families with allergic diseases can subscribe to receive email updates when new studies are listed. Researchers can list your study for inclusion.
CFAR, NACE, EAACI partnership
A world-leading collaboration between CFAR, the NACE Food Allergy Stream and EAACI is underway to establish living evidence methodologies and synthesis. This will ensure the most recent, relevant and reliable evidence can be used to inform guidelines and policy and will help identify research gaps to inform future projects to benefit all Australians.
